Hornsea Floral Hall

The Floral Hall was built in 1911 by local family firm J K Barr & Sons and opened to the public on 7 July 1913. The Floral has hosted many live events such as shows and Tea/Dinner Dances. It has always been a very respectable place to be seen.

Over the years the Floral has been expanded on numerous times, with the additions of a café and a stage. It has become popular for theatrical shows, Sunday lunches and a night life in Hornsea.

In 2012 Hornsea’s Floral Hall was under threat of demolition by its owners, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.  March 11th saw a massive demonstration protesting against that move. After some time and lots of coffee later, the Floral Hall Steering committee was formed. This led to the take-over of the Café, then the hall in summer 2013.

The Floral Hall is now run by a committee of volunteer directors, on behalf of the people of Hornsea. They are working hard to bring the reputation of Floral to the 21st century and to be as respectable as it once was. That’s a lot of work to do. 2014 saw the removal of the dreaded infamous sticky carpet and the dull theatre curtains. It’s amazing what a few little changes can make to the appearance of the venue.
